Our Story

A small kitchen,
a lot of noodles

Freshly made Chinese food on one of Cambridge's best-loved streets

Noodles Plus + 八方小厨

We opened our doors on Mill Road with a straightforward idea: serve the kind of noodles, dumplings and home-style dishes you would find in a good neighbourhood restaurant in China. No shortcuts, no compromises on ingredients, no pretension. Just honest food, made fresh.

Since then, we have become part of the fabric of Mill Road. Students pop in between lectures. Families come for Saturday lunch. Regulars order the same beef noodle soup every week and still enjoy it. We take that as the best kind of compliment.

Everything is prepared in our kitchen daily. Our dumplings are folded by hand. Our broths are simmered low and slow. It is simple work, done with care, and we think you can taste the difference.

01

Freshness

Our noodles are pulled and our dumplings are folded each day. We do not take shortcuts with pre-made bases or frozen fillings. You can see the difference, and you can taste it.

02

Tradition

The recipes we cook come from regional Chinese traditions. Techniques passed down, flavour combinations refined over decades. We keep things authentic because that is what makes them good.

03

Honest Pricing

Good food should not cost a fortune. We keep our prices fair because we believe everyone should be able to eat well. A filling meal here rarely costs more than £10 to £20 a head.

04

Community

Mill Road is our home. We are proud to be part of this street, alongside the independent shops and restaurants that give it its character. Our customers are our neighbours.

Mill Road, Cambridge

Mill Road is not your typical Cambridge street. There are no chain restaurants here, no tourist traps. Instead, you will find one of the most diverse food streets in the country: Korean grocers, Ethiopian restaurants, Turkish bakeries, Polish delis and, of course, a few very good Chinese kitchens.

It is the kind of place where everybody knows each other by name. Where you can buy fresh tofu in the morning, pick up spices from three different continents at lunch, and sit down to a bowl of hand-pulled noodles for dinner. We are proud to call it home.

If you have never walked the length of Mill Road, we think you should. Start at the station end, work your way down, and stop in to see us at number 24A. Bring an appetite.
